    2018-2019 OSC Departmental Scholarships

    The College of Optical Sciences’ 2018-2019 internal scholarship application deadline is April 2, 2018. These scholarships are available exclusively to OSC undergraduate and graduate students, thanks to a group of generous donors.     New Jack Jewell Endowed Research Award for Extreme Optics Seeking Nominations

    OSC is happy to announce the “Jack Jewell Endowed Research Award for Extreme Optics”. The award is currently acceping applications and the deadline is tentatively set for April 27, 2018; to be awarded at the OSC pre-commencement ceremony on May 10, 2018. This prestigious award includes a $4,000 stipend and will be given annually.

    Optimax $10K Research Grant Accepting Applications

    Optimax, a principal partner with the College of Optical Sciences Industrial Associates program, is offering a $10,000 Optics Research Grant. Eligibility requirements include that the applicants be researchers at the College of Optical Sciences. Applications must be received by March 30, 2018.

    NCU Student Exchange Program and Scholarship

    The Department of Optics and Photonics (DOP), National Central University in Taiwan invites scholarship applications for incoming exchange students for Summer (Jun. – Jul., internship) and Fall (Sept. – Jan., regular semester) in 2018. The opportunities are offered to undergraduate and graduate students from the College of Optical Sciences, the University of Arizona. The awards will be $2,500 per person. The application deadline is April 15, 2018.

    Launching your Career 2018 a Success

    The Women in Optics group, at the College of Optical Sciences, organized their annual ‘Launching Your Career’ symposium on March 24th. The response was excellent--about 50 participants from a wide range of backgrounds and at various career stages spent the day networking, attending talks, and participating in the interactive workshop.

    Laser Fun Day Approaches

    Laser Fun Day 2018 is on April 7, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Meinel Building (1630 East University Boulevard) on the UA campus. Admission is free and open to the public. The overwhelmingly popular Laser Maze returns yet again to delight participants. Exhibits include a 6-foot-long kaleidoscope, laser radios, solar telescopes, an infrared camera, and much more! Each demonstration illustrates different applications and properties of light.
