    2019 Spring Commencement

    On Thursday, May 9, College of Optical Sciences students walked across the stage and entered the distinguished ranks of OSC alumni. The UA Student Union south ballroom was filled with friends and family of the graduates, OSC staff and faculty and a joyous atmosphere. All of us at the college wish our graduates the best of luck as they light the future. Photos of the ceremony are now available online. High-resolution digital copies are available upon request.

    Graduating students, be aware: As your OSC and UA email addresses expire, so does your automatic subscription to Watts Up! But if you want to continue receiving the newsletter (and of course you do!), please take a moment to fill out the online subscription form

    Watts Up! Summer Schedule

    As the campus bustle slows down the Watts Up will follow suit! Watts Up! will be released on a monthly basis during the summer months, on the last Thursday of each month. Watts Up! regular bi-weekly schedule will resume after classes are back in session. Please continue to send story ideas to Media Content Manager, Amee Hennig.

    In Memoriam: Chuck DeMund

    Charles ”Chuck” DeMund, science photographer, author, philanthropist and eminent friend to the UA James C. Wyant College of Optical Sciences, passed away on Thursday May 9, 2019. As a world-renowned photographer of sciences, Chuck’s images captured outer space to the depths of the ocean. He made an undeniable impact on the field of optical sciences and photonics with this skill, an opportunity made possible by his 36-year career with defense contractor General Dynamics.

    On April 26, 2019 at the 44th Annual Scholar Awards Dinner, three OSC students were named Achievement Rewards for College Scientists (ARCS) Foundation Scholars for 2019-2020. Awardees included Travis Sawyer, Brandon Hellman, and Ben Cromey.
