Practical Optical System Design Workshop
The POW-Optical Design Team and SOCk are offering Workshops this fall. This will either introduce you to OpticStudio (Zemax Inc.) and ray trace softwares or can reinforce your knowledge. Learn more and register to attend.
Tech Launch Arizona Hosts Special Event
Join the Tech Launch Arizona and guest speakers for a special presentation "Strengthening Software Patents." The presentation will explore ways to help you increase the impact of your important work in developing software and content at the UA. Topics include: Patent Profanities; Overcoming Objections; Systems Diagrams; Flowcharts and the Secret Sauce; Starting Strong; and Case Study. Register by Nov. 13 online.
DOE Scholars Program Accepting Applications
The DOE Scholars Program introduces students and recent college graduates to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) mission and operations. The program is now accepting applications to award stipends starting at $600 per week for undergraduates and $650 per week for graduate students and post graduates during the internship period.
Synopsys Student Optical Design Competition
University of Arizona students are invited to participate in the Synopsys Robert S. Hilbert Memorial Optical Design Competition, which recognizes excellence in optical design projects completed by students. Students can enter an optical design class assignment or thesis work. Cash awards totaling $10,000 will be granted.
McLean Transfer Scholarship
The McLean Transfer Scholarship application is currently open with a deadline of November 15 and offers a $2,000 scholarship. An eligible student is a transfer student from an Arizona community college (transfer students have transferred in at least 12 units of credit); has successfully completed a U of A math class, above the level of pre-calculus; and is a STEM major (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) at the University of Arizona. Apply online!

Picnic in the Park
Academic Programs invites you to join us for a fun-filled Saturday picnic on November 17, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at the Northwest corner (by the library) of Himmel Park. Food, drinks, and games will be provided and we encourage you to bring something to share. You may B.Y.O.B. if you are over 21 years of age.
