Myers Chosen as 2012 Alumna of the Year

Kyle J. Myers, Ph.D. 1985, has been named the 2012 College of Optical Sciences Alumna of the Year. Myers, who serves as the director of the Division of Imaging and Applied Mathematics at the Center for Devices and Radiological Health at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, is a pioneer of the field of image science; she coauthored the definitive text on the subject with her adviser-turned-collaborator, Regents' Professor Harrison H. Now's Your Chance

Give back to the college today! The 2012 Annual Giving Back Campaign offers you the chance to fund scholarships, stock teaching laboratories, sponsor senior capstone projects — and even support needs we don't know about yet, through the unrestricted Dean's Fund for Excellence.

If you have any questions, please contact Kaye Rowan, the director of development, at 520-626-8754 or rowan@optics.arizona.edu.

    Take a Makeup Pic

The Web directory is (finally!) filled up with faculty, staff and student faces. However, we lost a lot of images in the system transition. If you'd like to get your official OSC portrait retaken (or taken for the first time), please email kwaller@optics.arizona.edu by the end of the month to schedule a time.

    GPSC Rep Selected

Congratulations go to Jasmine Sears, who will represent the students of the College of Optical Sciences for the next year as part of the University's Graduate and Professional Student Council.

    AOIA Offers Industry Lunch

The Arizona Optics Industry Association invites members of the OSC community to lunch on Wednesday, Oct. 31, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Arizona Inn on Elm Street. Industrial Affiliates members Breault Research Organization and Radiant Zemax LLC will be joined by Digital Dimensions and Lambda Research for presentations on "Optical Design Software and Solidworks."

Space is limited, so RSVP to Helena at aoialunch@inov.com now. Price for admission is $10; cash only please.

BRO Offers APEX and ASAP Tutorials

Breault Research Organization is holding a special Introduction to APEX tutorial over winter break, from Jan. 2 to Jan. 4, 2013. They are also offering an Introduction to ASAP tutorial on Dec. 3-6, 2012.

Free for OSC faculty, grad students and senior undergrads, these courses will provide those who finish either or both of them certificates of completion and access to complimentary seats in BRO's advanced software tutorials.
