    Scholarships Galore

    A number of new scholarships are available and other scholarships have opened up for their application period.     Childcare Grants Offered at SPIE Photonics West

    The 2019 SPIE Photonics West Child Care Grant is designed to supplement the cost of childcare for SPIE members who are registered to attend our largest annual meeting. Grants of up to $500 will be made in the form of reimbursements for expenses related to childcare of children under the age of 13 during the duration of the meeting.

    Happy Retirement Charlie

    OSC would like to wish Charlie Falco all the best as he enters retirement. To help celebrate Charlie's career and successes join us Oct. 30, 3-5 p.m. in the Franken Conference Room 821 for a special celebration in his honor.

    OSC Faculty Receive RAISE-EQuIP Award

    The College of Optical Sciences is happy to congratulate Saikat Guha, Linran Fan, and Dan Kilper on their recent National Science Foundation RAISE-EQuIP award for the project, "Quantum repeater for long-distance quantum communication enabled by non-Gaussian cluster states on a scalable hybrid aluminum nitride and silicon nanophotonic platform." The team has received $750,000 to pursue the research.

    OSC Assistant Professor Receives AFOSR YIP Grant

    Dr. Mohammed Hassan has received the AFOSR Young Investigator Research Program (YIP) Grant for his project, "Imaging the Ultrafast Dynamics in 2D Graphene." The grant awards him $450,000 over the course of three years. In total  $13.9 million in grants was awarded to 31 scientists and engineers from 24 research institutions and businesses.

    Industrial Affiliates Updates

    Thalmic Labs Becomes North, Inc. and Releases Smart Glasses

    Thalmic Labs, Inc. has rebranded as North, Inc. The College is thrilled to continue to count North, Inc. as one of OSC's Associate Partners in the Industrial Affiliates. North, Inc. has also launched a new product called Focals. The company describes Focals, "as your smartest pair of eyeglasses." The glasses use holographic film, embedded in the glasses, to create the projections visible while wearing them. To learn more about Focals and North, Inc. rebranding find more in the release

    Industrial Affiliates Workshop Photos

    The OSC community and Industrial Affiliates once again gathered in Tucson for a fantastic Industrial Affiliates Showcase, Career Fair, and Workshop. The event kicked off with a well-attended career fair, followed by a meet-and-greet dinner. The second and third days were filled with student presentations that outlined OSC research, lab tours, and industry presentations. Check out the photos from the event.
