    Tech Launch Arizona Workshop Series

    Interested in knowing how to leverage your research to create a big impact for you, the UA and society? Tech Launch Arizona is presenting a series of four lunchtime workshops designed to cover the knowledge you need to bring your research to the world. For more information on the October workshops and to RSVP, please visit the Tech Launch Arizona website. Only 40 seats are available for each session, and reservations are due by Oct. 1.

    Machine Shop Training

    If you are interested in using the student machine shop located on the 1st floor, you are required to take the Machine Shop Safety Training Class.     Vaughn Publishes in Electronic Military Defense Magazine

    College of Optical Sciences Ph.D. student Israel Vaughn recently penned an article for Electronic Military & Defense Magazine. The article, entitled Polarimetric Imaging For Target And Threat Identification is available online as well as in print.

    Sawyer Awarded Astronaut Scholarship

    For the second year running, OSC's Travis Sawyer was selected to receive an Astronaut Scholarship, which is granted to leading students in the nation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics or STEM fields. Sawyer becomes the first UA student to receive the award twice. In 2014 both Travis and fellow OSC student Benjamin Cromey were awarded the scholarship.

    Cheng Awarded John Kiel Scholarship

    SPIE awarded $353,000 in scholarships to 126 outstanding individuals based on their potential for long-range contribution to optics and photonics, or a related discipline. College of Optical Sciences student Weibo Cheng was awarded the John Kiel Scholarship, which was established to honor SPIE founding member John Kiel, in recognition of his long-standing contributions to the society.

    What a better way to start another intense semester than with cool treats and a barbeque! On Friday, Aug. 28 the Academic Programs office treated everyone to a refreshing Eegee's while the Student Optics Chapter (SOCK) ended the afternoon with a scrumptious grillfest.

    WISE Wants Undergrads for Internship Program

    The University's Women in Science and Engineering group is looking for undergraduate optics students for its for-credit internship program and volunteer outreach staff. The internship program offers training in community and campus outreach, public relations, and program development and implementation all while helping increase interest and diversity in STEM fields.
