    Saying Farewell to Mitch Ruda

    OSC alumnus Mitchell Curtis Ruda, Ph.D. 1979, passed away on Aug. 31. Mitch was renowned throughout the optics industry for his generosity, his effortless leadership and his expertise in alignment, design and testing. The college was honored to host a memorial service, which was held on Friday, Sept. 27, at 3 p.m.

    ASML Info Session

    Industrial Affiliates member ASML is holding an information session correlated with this week's workshop activities; students of optics; mechanical, software or electrical engineering; physics; and applied mathematics are invited to attend on Monday, Sept. 30, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Tucson Room at the Student Union Memorial Center.

    Interview with the Aerospace Corp.

    The Aerospace Corp. has interviews available from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2, in the Franken Conference Room (Meinel 821), for positions in El Segundo, Calif. Opportunities exist in modeling and simulation of geometrical and physical optics; optical mechanical engineering; optical design; electro-optical focal plane/detector characterization; and more, and candidates with higher degrees are preferred.

    With the excitement of the 2013 Fall Industrial Affiliates Workshop upon us, the college welcomes the program's newest members: DataRay Inc., which brings high-quality, affordable and reliable instrumentation to the photonics industry; FARO Technologies Inc., which develops and markets computer-aided measurement and imaging devices and software; and SA Photonics, which specializes in the design and development of advanced photonics systems for military and commercial customers.

    Representatives from all three companies will join us for this week's activities.
