GYMCAT & OPTICAL SCIENCES STUDENT, MALIA HARGROVE GOES TO NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

April 20, 2021

Malia Hargrove isn't only a Wyant College optical sciences sophomore student. She's a talented Arizona GymCat as well! At the recent NCAA Regionals Malia achieved a career-high score of 9.900 that launched her off to the NCAA Championships in Fort Worth, TX this last weekend, April 16 and 17. After the announcement she'd compete at the NCAA Championships Malia was featured in this article. In fact, Malia was the first GymCat to make the championships as an individual qualifier since 2016.

Malia shared her excitement saying, "The opportunity of being able to go to NCAA nationals was a huge surprise to me since there was a ten-way tie in being able to make it as an individual for floor. It taught me to not give up or get discouraged and to dream big. It ignited a fire in me to continue to make it as far as I can, and to not limit myself." Find Malia's 2020-2021 Gymnastics Roster here.

At the NCAA championships Malia gave it her all and scored a 9.8625, finishing 27th out of 28 gymnasts in the semi-final round two. Overall she tied for 46th out of 56. The Wyant College and the University of Arizona are so proud of the hard work she has put into this accomplishment. Read more about the recap from the Arizona Wildcat.
