Hilbert Optical Design Competition
University students are invited to participate in the Robert S. Hilbert Memorial Optical Design Competition, proudly supported by Keysight Technologies. This annual competition recognizes excellence in optical design and honors the legacy of Robert S. Hilbert, whose career exemplified innovation, technical excellence, and a deep commitment to optics education.
The competition is open to undergraduate and graduate students working individually or in teams. Submissions may be based on course projects, independent studies, or thesis and dissertation research, providing students with an opportunity to showcase creative and technically rigorous optical design solutions.
Participants gain valuable experience presenting professional‑quality design work while competing for recognition, awards, and visibility within the optics and photonics community. Faculty are encouraged to share this opportunity with their students and consider integrating participation into relevant coursework or research activities.
We welcome submissions that demonstrate strong design methodology, thoughtful analysis, and innovative problem-solving across all areas of optical and photonic system design.
