Welcome to Reflections, a series of biographies featuring OSC Emeritus faculty, written by Tammy Orr. This month, we highlight Jack D. Gaskill. As Associate Director for Academic Affairs (now, Academic Programs) for 20 years, Jack also served as Editor for SPIE’s research journal, Optical Engineering, from 1995 to 1990. Coinciding with the writing of this bio, SPIE has created a collection of Jack’s editorials to be featured on their Digital Library.

NEW SCHOLARSHIP FOR WOMEN IN OPTICS (WIO)
An exciting new scholarship opportunity is now available for application. The OSA Foundation (OSAF) seeks to support women demonstrating enthusiasm and passion for optics and photonics. DEPARTMENTAL SCHOLARSHIPS DEADLINE APPROACHES
OSC’s 2021-2022 academic year departmental scholarships are now available for application. The application deadline for all OSC scholarships is March 8, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. These scholarships are provided by OSC donors and are only for OSC students. The application process will take place online via Scholarship Universe, UArizona’s official scholarship management system.

INDUSTRIAL AFFILIATES UPDATES
VIAVI RELOCATES, PLANS MANUFACTURING CAPACITY EXPANSION IN ARIZONA
OSC Industrial Affiliates Partner, Viavi, announced that its Optical Security and Performance Products (OSP) segment plans to establish a new manufacturing facility in Chandler, Arizona to support growing demand for its technologies. VIAVI also plans to transition its headquarters to the new facility, which is anticipated to house at least 100 employees by 2022. Read the full press release.
