Indigenous Students Visit Wyant College With NASEP

June 14, 2023

Twenty-four indigenous students visited Wyant College this week, June 13th, to learn more about the amazing world of optics. Wyant College faculty, staff, and students provided one-on-one opportunities to engage with optical sciences in hands-on experiments and demonstrations, beginning with a pinhole camera picture! A special thank you to Hillary Mathis, Dr. Mike Nofziger, Khawlah Al Yahyaei, Clarissa DeLeon, Alisha Whitehead and Adley Gin for providing this amazing opportunity to the NASEP students.

Wyant College Faculty Awarded Thirty Patents in 2022

June 14, 2023

In 2022, Wyant College had thirty UArizona patents issued, according to Tech Launch Arizona (TLA),—that's a third of UArizona's total ninety-two patents for the financial year. In April, TLA hosted a celebration recognizing World Intellectual Property Day at their offices at The Refinery at The Bridges. Inventors from across campus and myriad academic fields were invited to attend and received commemorative coins, each emblazoned with their name, and the name and number of the patent.

Three Wyant College students received 2023 Optics and Photonics Education Scholarships from SPIE. Shriniketh Sreevatsan, Rachel Turner and Jennifer Bragg (L to R in photo above) were among the 72 outstanding SPIE Student Members to be recognized.

David Brady, who built the world's first gigapixel camera, has developed sparse holography, a revolutionary technology to create three-dimensional images. Brady's work on sparse holography earned him Optica's 2023 Emmett N. Leith Medal.

Optica Publishing Group Spotlights Inflatable Space Telescope Design and Metrology

June 9, 2023

The Optica Publishing Group highlighted a paper published by Wyant College and UArizona faculty with industry partners, Nikon, Northrop Grumman and L'Garde. The paper “Modeling and Characterization of OASIS Inflatable Primary Antenna by Dual Modality Metrology” discusses the concept of a 14m aperture inflatable space observatory and its feasibility study focusing on the primary inflatable mirror.

Welcome to two new staff members in the NSF-ERC Center for Quantum Networks! Julie Des Jardins is the new NSF-ERC Center for Quantum Networks Director for Diversity and Culture of Inclusion. Chaohan Cui is a recent PhD graduate from the Wyant College and returns as the new CQN Tuscon testbed manager. Read more about Julie and Chaohan.
