Reading Room

The Fred A. Hopf Reading Room supports the academic and research interests of the students, faculty and staff of the College of Optical Sciences through the generosity of the college's donors.

The collection is named is named in honor of professor Frederic A. Hopf, OSC's "Captain Chaos," who is still greatly missed by his family, friends, colleagues and former students. Hopf researched nonlinear optics, quantum optics and incoherent light applications of optics in chemistry. In his spare time, he was an amateur actor, a hiker and a birdwatcher.

Many of the books in the collection are personal donations from faculty, students, and the college's graduate student organization. In addition, many alumni, industrial affiliates and industry sponsors have contributed, making it possible for OSC to purchase books that it would not have been able to afford otherwise.

The reading room is located in Meinel 401, next to the Academic Programs office. Please contact the librarian at or 520-621-8154 with any questions.

The Hopf Reading Room online catalog search and user account details are currently unavailable. An alternate solution will be available soon, but in the meantime, please contact the librarian.
