Title

Information Capacity and Estimation Enhancement in Imaging Systems

Abstract

The pursuit of high information capacity and accurate parameter estimation has driven advances in computational imaging. This dissertation investigates imaging system design from the perspective of Shannon capacity and Fisher information. It begins with the design of a multifocal array camera that enhances information capacity by extending the depth of field. The work also addresses challenges in optical testing by demonstrating an on-axis deflectometric configuration for accurate metrology. Finally, this work proposes sensor concepts for measuring spatial coherence in incoherent imaging and analyzes how coherence measurements can boost Fisher information for parameter estimation. Through the physical design of optics and sensors, this dissertation explores how these two fundamental measures of information can be extended to enhance imaging performance.
