Title

Physics-Based Modeling for Advanced Optical Imaging Systems

Abstract

This dissertation develops a physics-based framework for optical imaging systems spanning geometric optics, wave propagation, and coherence theory. It investigates three representative regimes—structured illumination imaging, synthetic aperture scatter imaging, and interferometric mutual-intensity measurements—showing how different physical observables determine the information accessible to an imaging system. By explicitly modeling illumination, propagation, detection, and field statistics, the work demonstrates that extending measurements beyond intensity enables improved reconstruction performance without increasing aperture bandwidth. The results provide a unified foundation for the design of advanced computational imaging systems.
