Joel Berkson Selected as Tech Launch Arizona Student Innovator of the Year

Congratulations to Wyant College fourth-year doctoral student, Joel Berkson, on this amazing accomplishment. On October 11, Tech Launch Arizona hosted its ninth annual I-Squared Awards and Expo event, at which top inventors, entrepreneurs, and community leaders were honored for dedicating themselves to commercializing UArizona inventions and startups. Joel was selected for the Student Innovator of the Year award.

TLA says, "Joel Berkson, a fourth-year doctoral student at the University of Arizona James C. Wyant College of Optical Sciences and Steward Observatory, has developed a new way for precisely measuring radio antenna surfaces which are used to collect and focus radio waves for astronomy and satellite communications." Read the full TLA press release. Joel is a PhD student co-supervised by Dr. Daewook Kim and Dr. Justin Hyatt. The team worked together to invent and patent the new technology and formed the startup company Fringe Metrology LLC to commercialize it. The LOFT research group congratulated Joel on their site as well as sharing a video of the award being announced.  Congratulations, Joel!
