Research Summary

Imaging and Applied Optics Laboratory (IAOL) specializes in optical engineering, advanced imaging, and biomedical optical imaging. In optical engineering, the lab focuses on optical system development from design to fabrication and to testing; freeform optics; optical metrology and 3D imaging; and additive manufacturing. In advanced imaging, the lab explores spectral, polarization and phase imaging; computational imaging; and deep learning techniques. The research in biomedical imaging focuses on optical imaging techniques for clinical applications, biomedical optical instrumentation; and mobile imaging technologies. IAOL provides the hands-on opportunities to develop problem solving skills in developing novel optical solutions, including concept generation, system development, lens design, optics fabrication, testing, and system evaluation.
